Pre-birth breastfeeding information and advice puts you in a fantastic position to meet your goals and get you and your baby off to a healthy, happy breastfeeding start.

With so much to learn in a hospital stay averaging 2 days a pre-baby consult gives you confidence, practical tools and knowledge to help prevent common breastfeeding challenges before they start

Breastfeeding is a team effort so your partner or a support person is welcome to attend a pre-birth breastfeeding consultation at no extra cost.

A pre-birth consult includes detail as below, all your questions answered , DVD clips and a handy info pack to refer to at home & take to hospital. It also includes a bonus 20% off post birth lactation consult if you want to fine tune any latching or breastfeeding issues in the early weeks.

A handy session for all expectant parents planning to breastfeed but essential  if you are anticipating breastfeeding challenges due to:

  • Previous issues with sore nipples or low milk supply
  • History of hormonal disorders- PCOS, IVF, difficulty falling pregnant
  • Previous breastfeeding problems or experience of low supply etc
  • No noticeable breast changes during pregnancy
  • Asymmetrical breasts, wide breast spacing or ‘odd’ shaped breasts
  • Acute or chronic disease- eg diabetes including gestational diabetes
  • Breast surgery or trauma
  • Flat or inverted nipples
  • Family history of allergies or food intolerance
  • Tongue tie
  • Cleft palate
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Possibility of premature birth
  • You are expecting twins or more !

We will cover:

  • How breastfeeding works and what to expect in the early hours,days & weeks of breastfeeding
  • Discover how to get things off to a flying start and establish a good milk supply
  • Find out how to tell your baby is getting enough milk
  • Signs that breastfeeding is going well
  • Discuss prevention and simple ways to overcome common breastfeeding issues
  • Establishing breastfeeding even if things don't go completely to plan
  • Know who to call for help and when to call a Lactation Consultant

At Red Gate Clinic my mission is to give you Prompt, Personalised  & Professional care with individual support and current breastfeeding information invaluable during those early, hazy days of breastfeeding and new motherhood.

Most breastfeeding difficulties can be prevented and readily overcome with quality information, assessment, support and the time a Lactation Consultant ( IBCLC) can offer. Breastfeeding can potentially save you approximately $2500 annually in bottle feeding as well as potential for reduced health costs, doctors visits and time off work .

A lactation consultation includes

History & listening to your concerns

Observation and assesment of a breastfeed, your babys mouth and your breasts/nipples

Help and practice to improve your feeding comfort and baby milk intake

Written breastfeeding plan tailored to your breastfeeding goals and printed material related to our discussion

Communication and assessment to your health care providers and referral for any issues beyond my scope of practice

Follow up support for 10-15 minutes by phone or email

Fees & Appointments

EFTPOS facility available for your convenience. Receipt issued for health fund claiming

VIP package- Pre birth breastfeeding workshop & breastfeeding consult after the birth  $200 (a saving of $50)

                      -Free email/phone/text support for 4 weeks after birth

                      -Priority booking for second visit

                      -Great baby shower gift- ensure your friend, colleague, daughter or daughter in law has gold standard breastfeeding support before & after birth

Pre-birth breastfeeding one to one workshop: 90 minutes $120 

Initial breastfeeding consultation: 60 mins $130 ( includes email, text & 10 minute phone support for 2 weeks after consult)
Follow-up consultation: Up to 60 minutes $70

Health Care Card holders $50 off Pre Birth, VIP package, post birth cconsults . Followup consults half price ( current card must be presented)

Lactation Consultations are available 7 days per week; depending on urgency- I aim to give you an appointment within 24 hours or sooner of your call so please book as soon as you decide on a consult.

 I can see you at Roma hospital, Red Gate clinic or home if necessary at no additional cost.

If distance is a problem Skype consult appts. are also available dependant on issue
